A brewery is a building for the making of Beer. If beer is made in the home then the area used may be called a home brewery. A company which makes beer is called either a brewing company or a brewery. Beer, and breweries, can be traced back over 4000 years to he earliest civilizations. Before the rise of production breweries, the brewing of beer took place at home and was the domain of women along with baking since they use the same ingredients - yeast, grains, and heat. Breweries, as production facilities reserved for making beer, did not emerge until Church institutions started producing beer for their own consumption and to use as payment. This industrialization of brewing shifted the responsibility of making beer to men.
